How to Choose Bamboo Flooring?

Bamboo flooring is really popular at present. Several of my friends installed bamboo flooring in their houses recently. And I also plan to have bamboo flooring in my living room.

Do you wonder why bamboo flooring is so popular? My reason for buying bamboo flooring is as follows:

The first reason I prefer bamboo flooring is that bamboo is renewable. It grows much faster than trees. So, when you are choosing bamboo products instead of wood ones, you are actually saving a forest.

Second, as a girl chasing novelty and elegance, I find bamboo flooring a ideal choice. Most bamboo flooring maintains the original appearance of bamboo somewhat. Therefore the floor looks quite natural.
The flooring I bought from Floor Bamboo, Inc. is made from Mao Bamboo. Do you know this kind of bamboo?. Oh, this bamboo grows mostly in China, a mythical and ancient Country in Orient. And this special Mao Bamboo is one of the hardest plants on earth.

Moreover, durability is another reason which makes me love bamboo flooring. Although bamboo is grass, its’ unique structure makes it very strong. It is as strong as maple and it much stronger than oak.

I told you that I just bought some flooring from Floor Bamboo, Inc. I had to say that buying floor is not a easy job. You have to do a lot of research on prices, quality, and warranty, etc. And I myself have already gone through this. So, I wish to share my experience with you here.

1. Price is absolutely a key factor for most people when buying flooring. The prices of bamboo flooring on market range quite different. But it is not necessarily the higher price, the better products. It is important to do a research and comparison, then choose a reasonable price, taking the quality in account.

2.Choose one type of bamboo flooring that fit you. As for structure, there are generally three kinds of bamboo flooring——strand-woven and grained.
The strand-woven bamboo is harder than traditional bamboo flooring, but the price is relatively higher.
Common and popular bamboo flooring is grained bamboo flooring. There are horizontal grained flooring and vertical grained one. For horizontal style, the strips are laid flat so the top surface shows the bamboo’s natural growth rings. While for Vertical grained style, the strips are turned on their sides and laminated together in long, slender rows creating a different appearance.

3.As for color processing, the traditional method is staining. Though carbonization may soft the bamboo a little, it is highly recommended. Carbonization is something of a high pressure heat treatment, which transforms the color of entire board inside out. In the process of carbonization, there is no adding manmade material. However, when staining, you have to use paint and the natural appearance of bamboo would be destroyed. More and more stores tend to supply carbonized bamboo flooring now. The flooring I bought from Floor Bamboo, Inc is also carbonized bamboo flooring.

4.Order 5%-10% extra flooring for waste.
To decide how much flooring you need, you have to measure the area of your room, which you plan to have bamboo flooring installed in. It is strongly recommended to order about 10% extra flooring for cutting, waste, and maybe, accidental damage in future. If the installation is not very smooth, and you did not order extra flooring. You will find it really troublesome to buy new ones. An the spare flooring really useful if there is some accident happen to your flooring, such as scratch or so.

5.Do not install bamboo flooring in bathroom or any place with too much moisture. Though bamboo flooring is moisture resistant, too much and longtime moisture will damage bamboo flooring and even make the flooring out of shape. If you insist having bamboo flooring installed in your bathroom, it is ok. But I have to remind you that the flooring installed in bathroom is out of warranty. So when you are buying flooring, pay special attention to the terms of warranty. This will helps you a lot in the long run.

That is some points of mine. I hope they will be of help to you when you are buying bamboo flooring.

Trafficmaster Allure Commercial Vinyl Flooring

We recently installed a new garage floor for the Cromie’s, one of our great repeat customers. I have never used the Trafficmaster Allure Flooring before so I was skeptical but after installing it I am satisfied it will stand up to years of service. My standard for this type of floor is RaceDeck and I will be doing a table top review of Trafficmaster in a few days. My biggest complaint with the Allure is the manufacturers trim. The devil is always in the details and this is one area the manufacturer needs to improve. See the video for details!

A Guide to Flooring Options in the Home

The choice of flooring can dramatically enhance the look and feel of a room so it is important to choose the right material and product. Flooring suppliers are giving home owners more choice than ever when it comes to flooring options and with carpets, laminate floors, ceramic tiles and hardwood flooring all on offer, finding suitable flooring is easy.

Carpets are available in a huge range of colours, patterns and textures to provide the perfect match for your taste. Plain carpets can be used in smaller rooms to create a sense of space whilst patterned carpets are often used in high use rooms to mask general wear and tear. Carpet flooring is popular in living rooms and bedrooms where a touch of comfort is always welcome. You can prolong the life of your carpet by rearranging your room periodically to prevent shuffle lanes appearing.

Laminate flooring has become increasingly popular since it was introduced over 15 years ago. There are hundreds of laminate flooring styles available including wood, stone, brick and tile. Laminate floors are often used by home owners who are looking for a cheap flooring solution whilst maintaining a stunning finish. The quality of laminate flooring is continually improving and many products now offer an incredibly cost effective flooring solution. Laminate flooring is constructed using high density fibre (HDF) board with a high resolution photo of the material on the surface. Manufacturers of laminate flooring use different techniques and systems so always follow the instructions provided by them when laying flooring.

Although laminate and carpet flooring can be used for bathroom floors, many flooring suppliers recommend the use of ceramic tiles or vinyl as they are water proof and easy to keep clean. Ceramic tiles can be used to add a natural look to a room and are popular in kitchens and bathrooms. The tiles are easily cleaned and very hard wearing. Slate flooring, with its cool appearance and clean lines, is one of the most popular choices at flooring suppliers. Other ceramic flooring options include marble, granite and terracotta, which can be used to create a Mediterranean look in kitchens and conservatories.

For the ultimate in chic and style however there is no other flooring cover that rivals the warmth and finish offered by a traditional hardwood floor. Although more expensive than laminate flooring, a hardwood floor will last a lifetime with some wood floors lasting over 100 years. Compare this to the amount of times a carpet will need changing and the price difference becomes less significant.

Wooden flooring is available in traditional woods such as ash and beech and more exotic options such as walnut and bamboo. Oak flooring is the biggest seller in Europe and the USA and is heavily produced on both continents. Different wood species offer varying tones, grain and durability. Hardwood flooring adds value to homes and is recommended for people who suffer from dust allergies.

Whilst wooden flooring is an attractive option is not suitable for every situation. Wood floors have to attach directly to the sub-base so therefore cannot be installed on concrete. Laminate flooring is installed as a floating floor and can therefore be used on a wider range of sub-bases. Laying flooring on a poor sub-base will affect the quality of the flooring and reduce its lifespan.

With cheap flooring options now available, home owners can change their flooring as often as they redecorate. Interior styles are constantly changing and flooring suppliers are constantly updating their products to meet demand.
