I overshampooed my carpet and caused stains from the backing to appear. How can I remove the stains?

I rented a carpet cleaning machine and over shampooed and consequently over wet the carpet. When the carpet dried stains from the carpet backing appeared on the surface of the carpet. Is there any way to remove these brownish colored stains?
