This extinct species is rare and very hard to come by, but years ago it was the most dominant hardwood in the forest. After the species died off in the 50’s they used all the dead trees for construction of barns and homes, now those barns are being torn down, and the chestnut beams are being reclaimed into flooring for new homes.
